ChathamArts Presents “100-Mile Film Series: Sustainable Cinema” at the General Store Cafe
PITTSBORO – ChathamArts presents an opportunity to enjoy and celebrate local films and filmmakers with its twice monthly “100-Mile Film Series: Sustainable Cinema” at the General Store Café in Pittsboro, July 8 – Dec.16.
The Tuesday evening series, which also includes an open call for local submissions, kicks off July 8 at 7:30 p.m. with “Pittsboro Anytown,” a collection of eight shorts highlighting Chatham people and places. The shorts were produced by Randolph Benson’s students at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University. Benson, an award-winning filmmaker, will be on hand to discuss the documentaries.

New Technology: Prefabricated Set Structures

The “fascia” of Hollywood set design may be rapidly changing if a Piedmont Triad inventor has anything to say about it.
Weldon Sipe, a retired location manager with several major Hollywood motion pictures to his credit, has developed a new way to erect temporary sets for the stage and film industry, at a fraction of the cost that traditional set constructions takes.
Sipe has started Hollyworks Set Structures LLC, a North Carolina based company, that provides reusable support structures of various architectural shapes that can be arranged, assembled and finished by set construction crews to accommodate whatever the movie script or stage production requires.
A prototype was recently unveiled to a select audience: “I was amazed at the simplicity in setting up the frame structure.” Rebecca Clark, Director of North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad Film Commission, said after being the first to view the project. “I was also impressed that the pieces were so lightweight that I could easily pick one up, yet they are strong enough to withstand the elements.”

Extras needed for gothic horror film
|

We are still on the lookout for extras for some of the scenes in our film "The Project" We need people to sit in a court room and be either spectators or possibly jurors. There is the potential that more complex roles may follow.
We also need extras to pose as high school students in a classroom scene.

Greensboro 48 Hour Film Project

How would you like to stay up for two days straight as a volunteer in a creative scramble to come up with a short film in a specific genre, with the promise of a few prizes and undying adulation of your fellow filmmakers?
The whole thing will only cost you $155, a few nights of sleep and some of your sanity. It's time again for the Greensboro 48 Hour Film Project. Each team draws a random genre at the kick off on June 20, at the Green Street Club. It then has 48 hours to creat a short film, from script to screen. The catch? Each film must incorporate a set number of elements, a character, prop and line of dialogue.
